The Fondation Cartier is considered one of the most important exhibition venues for contemporary art by indigenous peoples.

According to Hervé Chandès, director of the Fondation Cartier, the idea came in 2000, when he met activist Claudia Andujar. The goals was, to decolonize indigenous art which is as contemporary as the art created in London or Paris. The next exhibition "Claudia Andujar. The Yanomami Struggle" will be also shown at the Triennale in Milan in June 2023.
