It offers wellbeing products, including baby care products, sleep oils and moisturizers, body gels and oils, treatments, and massage products; gifts; make-up products for cheeks, eyes, face, lips, and nails; bath and body care products; skincare products; fragrances; and hair care products. The company was founded in 1976 and is headquartered in London, the United Kingdom. It has operations in Canada, Australia, and the United States; and franchisee operations in South Africa. The Body Shop International is owned by Brazilian cosmetics company Natura as a subsidiary of the Natura & Co group. The company had been owned by the French cosmetics company L'Oréal between 2006 and 2017. In June 2017, L'Oréal agreed to sell the company to Natura for £880 million.
