A true classic, Armor Lux has been making the breton style knits, jerseys & reefer jackets since 1938. Hailing out of the small French town of Quimper, Armor Lux is still made in France using virtually the same techniques & fabrics, high quality product, and true craftsmanship. Historically, the long-sleeved mariner tee was first designed for and worn by fisherman from Brittany. The classic stripe pattern made it easier to locate a man overboard, and it has remained the official uniform of the French Navy since. In France, the look is a sartorial staple that never goes out of style, and is inextricably linked to Brittany and the Atlantic coast, to idyllic summers by the sea. The thick knit fisherman sweater protected North Sea fisherman from the elements, and each fishing community developed its own identifiable pattern based on motifs related to the sea. If the body of a fisherman was found, it could then be returned to his home for burial. Today, Armor Lux makes textiles for the French Railways, Paris Airports, French Police as well as the French Post Office, on the original knitting machines and in the same factories for nearly a century. In 2005, Armor Lux introduced a fair trade cotton line produced in Africa and aimed at supporting underprivileged small Western and Central African producers.Brand Details
