The House of Balenciaga is one of the most influential forces in fashion and is developing into a major player in the Luxury Goods industry. Founded in 1919 by Cristóbal Balenciaga and established in Paris in 1936, it defined many of the greatest movements in fashion from the 1930s to the 1960s. Its provocative design and vision, the mastery of techniques and cut, the constant innovation in fabrics and the talent of its Creative Director, Nicolas Ghesquière, have been the keys to the House's success.
Balenciaga creates and markets women's and men's ready-to-wear collections as well as handbags and shoes. A eyewear collection and a new woman fragrance are also produced and distributed worldwide through a licence agreement .

Balenciaga faces backlash over Chinese Valentines Day-exclusive mockery
Balenciaga accused of insulting Chinese people’s taste with ‘tacky’ and ‘offensive’ ads for its Chinese Valentines Day (QiXi) campaign. 
The series of promotional images have received backlash online with netizens calling the brand out for its gaudy – and even insulting – designs. A hashtag shortly surfaced not long after its debut, with the hashtag  #BalenciagaChineseValentinesCampaignisTacky, drawing more than 220,000 discussions and 180 million views on Weibo. Another hashtag trending on social media was #BalenciagaInsultsChina.
 
Graduate fashion designer accuses Balenciaga of appropriation
Tra My Nguyen, who is based in Berlin and of Vietnamese heritage, has accused Balenciaga of appropriating her work, alleging that the luxury label posted an image to social media strikingly similar to one in her portfolio, which it had requested to see.  As of July 24, neither Balenciaga nor Creative Director Demna Gvsalia has issued a statement regarding the alleged plagiarism.

 As part of Balenciaga’s Spring/Summer 2020 collection,  Balenciaga’s Tyrex has treated its retro-futuristic Tyrex sneaker to an all-silver makeover.  
The asymmetrical sneaker is inspired by the human anatomy and our natural web of muscles underneath the skin, and as a result, the pair is incredibly ergonomic and comfortable.
