Macy's will be the first department store in the world to dedicate 39,000 sf to footwear, putting in second place London Selfridges with 35,000 sf.
During the last months the battle of department stores to have the more unique, amplified and great selection of footwear offer started, and it looks like it will never stop, specially in New York Area.
Bergdorf Goodman(few years ago they were the first to give a salon to footwear) and Barneys revealed their footwear new merchandising strategy during the last couple of months, and recently Lord & Taylor.
Today all eyes are on Macy's Herald Square with the opening of the largest shoe floor in the world with 63,000 sf in total if we add the back-of-the-house storage, there will be 280,000 pairs of shoes, which means an increase of %50 on the product offer.
The merchandising team of the department store has done a great job on structural changes and organization by different zones which are:
-DESIGNER SHOE ZONE: Stuart Weitzman, Michael Michael Kors
-CLEARANCE CLOSETS: for dedicated sales merchandising
Today a small portion of the project will be open, but the rest is still work in progress together with the creation of another spaace for accessories and luxury shoes. The most expensive brand that the retailer carries today is Louis Vuitton and it has brouht good sales results, therefore there are plans to add more luxury brands in Macy's merchandising.
