Giuseppe Imprezzabile is a chemist with a passion for the poetry of Pablo Neruda, Rainer Maria Rilke and Juana Ines de la Cruz.
He had an herbalist shop in Salsomaggiore Terme. Yet three years ago, his passion for words and the evocative power of fragrances turned into a job. He became Meo Fusciuni, a family nickname
from his native Sicily ( Meo was his father's diminutive and fusciuni means flowing in Sicilian, the word his grandfather used to describe him) and started making fragrances.
Meo Fusciuni perfumes are today handmade in his shop and much sought-after by the fashion set. The business is made up solely of Imprezzabile and his life and business partner Federica Castellani.
'I never thought I would end up doing this enterprise',
Imprezzabile, who calls himself Meo Fusciuni like his fragrances, 'But in each one of my projects what matters is not the finish line but the ideas and dreams along the way', added Meo, who said his work is inspired by 'Life is a Dream', a 17th century play by Pedro Calderon de la Barca on the mystery of life, and the role played by fate and a man's free will.
The perfume maker's first creation, Trilogia di viaggio (Trilogy of journey), came from an 'olfactory nomadism', he said, which brought him from Istanbul, Morocco to Sicily in a 'voyage through North Africa's mint and Sicilian figs and the sensations raised by the people I met along the way'. 'The poetry of life' and the potency of an 'involuntary memory' evoked by a fragrance are 'the significance of my work and life', said Meo Fusciuni.
The cicle of the poetry start with Notturno, nothing in this parfum packaging and ideas is standard. Its luxurious packaging, handmade by a goldsmith, includes a beautiful ring with a tourmaline pendant. Its scent, a seducing mixture of rum and ink, represents 'the olfactory architecture of the heart', the result of an introspective voyage following the perfume maker's lengthy travels. In february 2013 has presented his new work named Luce (light), 'another introspective work this time made in broad daylight which will smell of purity and cleanliness dedicated to the architecture of silence'.
