The Bielefeld-based company was founded in 1889 by two merchants, Leo Roos and Isidore Kahn, owners of the men's clothing factory Roos and Kahn. Its production was about men's outerwear such as coats, pants and jackets. In 1938, the company is purchased by F. Niemann, who drove it into an industrial firm in the following years. Günther Klasing becomes managing partner in 1960. Because of his fondness for fine English fabrics, the company's name is changed in Windsor, alluding to the British royal family. In these years, Klasing also promotes cooperation with well-known designers, such as Pierre Cardin. Klasing sold the company to his school friend Rudolf-August Oetker in 1970, yet remains within the company. Oetker takes over the company towards a conglomerate perspective and changes the profile of the brand significantly in 1977. The first womenswear collection is launched. In 1983 UJ Textile GmbH & Co. KG, owned by Uwe and Jochen Holy, enter the Windsor business. As a result of the business' positive development, the first license eyewear collection is launched in 1990. The year after, Windsor GmbH takes over the license of the menswear label Joop!. In 1997, the first Windsor store is opened in Berlin. Since 1999, the current logo is led by a revamped brand identity. In order to have a deep control on both of the company's brand, Strellson's headquarter is established in Kreuzlingen, Switzerland in 2001. Since 2006 the Windsor brand belongs to the Holy Fashion Group, also based in Switzerland, whilst the production is delocalized in Portugal and Bulgaria.Brand Details
